Exciting News

25.11.20

Good Afternoon Parents, Guardians and Families,

It is with overwhelming excitement that I share with you some extraordinary news. I have been contacted by Katie Hall (Member of Parliament Footscray), informing me that as part of this week’s budget announcements, Sunshine Special Developmental School will be receiving $10 million dollars for building and infrastructure works ensuring modern, permanent learning environments that support those most in need, and accommodate growing enrolments.

At this stage I have no further information regarding the extent or inclusions as part of this project, however look forward to visioning and planning for the future needs of our students and school community and sharing the journey with you along the way.

Please see below correspondence from James Merlino received today.

Enjoy your evening and take care.

Victorian Budget 2020/21 – your school’s capital building project

Dear principal

In the Victorian Budget 2020/21, the Victorian Government announced an investment of more than
$3 billion in school upgrades, including $1.1 billion as part of the previously announced Building Works Package, with a further $1.9 billion to roll out the next phase of the school building boom.

This extra $1.9 billion investment will support more than 6,400 construction and supply chain jobs, including more than 4,830 jobs related to projects in metropolitan Melbourne and more than 1,570 jobs related to projects in regional Victoria.

I’m delighted to confirm your school will be among 162 across the state (including 39 specialist schools) to directly benefit.

This funding ensures that schools can teach in modern, permanent learning environments, support those most in need, and accommodate growing enrolments.

I can confirm that as part of this investment, Sunshine Special Developmental School will receive 10 million   to upgrade and modernise your school, including providing additional permanent buildings.

This funding allocation is for all the costs associated with your project, including professional fees, all building-related costs, and a project contingency.

This is an exciting time for your school community. The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), in conjunction with Department of Education and Training regional office staff, will support you over the course of your capital works project, ensuring that the educational vision of your school is realised. Some initial key information about your school’s project has been provided below.

I look forward to monitoring the progress of this exciting project at your school.

Yours sincerely

The Hon James Merlino MP

Deputy Premier
Minister for Education
Minister for Mental Health
