21st July 2021 – Extended Lockdown

Dear Parents, Guardians and Families,

As you are aware, the Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has extended the COVID-19 lock down until Tuesday the 27th July 2021. Our priority is to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, families and the community. Whilst the school has yet to have any positive cases of COVID, we are in a global pandemic with Victoria currently being a compromised state and this remains a significant concern for the Leadership team, staff of Sunshine SDS and our community.

We would like to thank our amazing staff for their team effort last week and again this week. Our teachers will continue to provide daily home learning including a morning message, English, Mathematics, Science and a specialist activity via Seesaw, alternatively every students has access to a hard copy learning at home pack. We are confident these structures will continue to support our students to learn at home during the extended lockdown period.

There will be provision to expand the number of students who are unable to learn from home with the three categories now being:

  1. Students of authorised workers – if you have been previously accepted and identified in this category there is no need to provide further evidence
  2. Students deemed vulnerable – this must be approved and supported by the school
  3. Students with a disability who are experiencing difficulty learning from home – this is the extension of provision supported by The Department of Education today.

If you believe that you fit the criteria, please contact me via the school’s email address [email protected] by 12pm today (Wednesday 21st July). We will then contact you to discuss any further supports we can provide your child at home or, if necessary, their return to school during the lockdown period.

Please be aware that there will be a small rotation of teaching and education support staff members on-site in supervisory roles only. Students who meet the criteria to attend school will not be provided with additional learning opportunities to what is currently being provided by their teachers on Seesaw or in the hard copy home learning pack.

Take care and stay safe.

Kind regards,

Trisha Thompson

Acting Principal
