Dear Parents, Guardians and Families,

I hope this finds you healthy, safe and well and would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude and appreciation for the immense support expressed from our parents, families and staff. There is no doubt the challenge we all face as a community is enormous as we follow guidance and direction to implement strategies to decrease transmission and exposure to COVID-19.

I am at school daily and can tell you without our students and staff here it doesn’t feel like a school. I look forward to a time (hopefully soon) that we will all be back together and the school is filled with the sounds of children and young people engaged in learning and play and our staff who are dedicated to each and every one of our learners. Our staff are working extremely hard to ensure we continue to provide differentiated learning activities through our Learning at Home packs and online learning, and I thank them for the tremendous efforts, professionalism and commitment they are demonstrating.

Whilst I know that being at school when we can be safe and healthy is our aim, as a school we are trying to support our community as much as possible and will continue to do so throughout this health crisis. We are looking forward to distributing the Learning at Home packs and surprises to you this week.

Our next delivery of Learning at Home packs will be:

Thursday 7th May for students on the bus service (delivered between 3pm – 5pm)

Friday 8th May for students who do not access the bus service

We know that having your children at home for this extended period is incredibly challenging and we also know that many of you may be experiencing hardship due to loss of employment. This week, in addition to the Learning at Home packs, you will also receive a help hamper. Each term we receive food items from Foodbank for our school programs. We would prefer to distribute them to you at this difficult time rather than have them sitting here in storage at school. So with this week’s Learning at Home pack delivery you will all receive a help hamper containing a variety of items, similar (but different) to the packs we sent out at the end of last term.

As you would also be aware, every year we support our students to make a special gift for their mum or special person for Mother’s/Special Person’s Day. Although we are not at school, Sunshine SDS has arranged a special gift for the Mother or Special Person in our students lives to celebrate this special day. If someone in your house could support your child to write a message on the handmade card for their special person that would be fantastic.

Please remember we understand that the current situation creates many challenges and that Learning at Home is extremely difficult. We are and will always do our best to support our students and you their families, working in partnership to ensure the best educational outcomes, even though remote.

Stay safe and healthy.

If you wish to communicate with your child’s teacher about their learning, this can be done through Seesaw. Teachers will only reply during school hours.
