Newsletter 31st January 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians and Families,

I hope this finds you all well and that you had a lovely festive season, New Year and holiday period.

A new year starts, we warmly welcome new and returning students, families and team members to the 2020 school year. We know it will be a year of new and exciting opportunities and adventures.

The staff have been engaged in professional learning over the two curriculum days this has included a focus on First Aid, Literacy, Communication, Manual Handling and Positive Learning Support.

Students make a school a school, so we very excitedly and warmly welcomed most students back to school yesterday and our Foundation (prep) students to school today. I have had the opportunity to visit classrooms across the two days and all students have settled well. Smiles all round, great engagement in learning and lots of fun. We look forward to the year ahead.

With the completion of the building works the main office has relocated back to the front of the school in Ivory Court, the office hours are 8:30am – 4pm.

Parent Parking and Late Arrival/Early Departure Process

The gates to the back of the school and parent/bus drop off and pick up area will be locked at 9:10am and reopened at 2:45pm.

If you are dropping your child off late (after 9am) or picking them up early (before 3pm) you are to report to the office which has now relocated back to Ivory Court and complete the sign in/out process.

A friendly reminder to ensure when dropping off or picking up your child from school that you park in the allocated parking bays. Please do not remain stationary or park over the driveway, this blocks access and prevents the buses from entering and other parents from accessing the carpark. Please also ensure you observe all signs and speed limits to ensure the safety of our students, parents and community members. Please check carefully and thoroughly before reversing and move slowly through the school parking area.

Student Diaries

Your child will have received their student diary for 2020, this is one means of communication. Please ensure the diary is sent to school in your child’s bag on a daily basis. Teachers will contact you to discuss individual preferences for regular communication.

Coronavirus advice for parents, families and school communities

You may be aware of the outbreak of a novel coronavirus in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China.

The Australian Government has advised that there is no cause for alarm with respect to the coronavirus and that the risk to the Australian public remains relatively low.

The Department of Education and Training has consulted with Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and Department of Health and Human Services to provide the following advice to parents, families and school communities.

Exclusion of well children or staff who have travelled to affected areas

In accordance with national public health guidelines and current information about the coronavirus from the Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer, it is not a requirement to exclude well children or staff from school if they have travelled to Wuhan, China, or any other areas where there have been reported cases, unless the following applies:

  • the person is a confirmed case of novel coronavirus; or
  • the person is a close contact with a confirmed case of novel coronavirus in the past 14 days.

If you think your child or a family member may meet one of the above criteria, please contact the dedicated hotline on 1800 675 398. Please keep Triple Zero (000) for emergencies only.

Seeking medical advice for your child

Please seek medical advice for any child who is:

  • experiencing fever and respiratory symptoms (including but not limited to cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, body aches or fatigue); AND
  • has recently travelled to Wuhan, China, or any other areas where there have been reported cases in the 14 days before of the onset of illness.

As with the above advice, please call the dedicated hotline on 1800 675 398 to discuss further actions.

Summer has certainly hit with many hot days still ahead of us. A reminder to ensure your child or young person comes to school with appropriate clothing, shoes and sunscreen applied as well as a drink bottle for hydration. The staff will endeavour to support students in wearing their sun hats provided by the school when outside and apply additional sunscreen before outside breaks.
