Newsletter 5 – 20th May 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It’s hard to believe we are half way through the term. Staff are busy completing assessments in preparation for report writing. Our coaching model (Tutor Learning Initiative – TLI) has commenced and after a visit from the regional Student Achievement Manager (SAM) we were asked to present our TLI model at a regional professional learning opportunity. This enabled us to share our practice to mainstream and special settings through a WebEx, an exciting experience to showcase our school and the work we are doing.

This term we welcome Tash our chaplain who will support the implementation of our Parent Engagement calendar and Natasha our Mental Health Practitioner (Social Worker). Last term we farewelled our Nurse Jo and thank her for her six years of commitment and dedication to our school community, we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavours and are in the process of recruiting a school nurse.

Education Week and Biggest Morning Tea

As part of Education Week in Week 6 we have planned several activities for students around our focus of building connections. Students will have an experience in a games room, participate in a scavenger hunt as well as many in class activities designed by the Education Week Committee. Thank you to the committee who have planned and prepared exciting and engaging teaching and learning to celebrate this event.

We invite you to join us on Thursday 27th May to celebrate Education Week. The events will include;

9:30am – Family Scavenger Hunt

10:30am – the Biggest Morning Tea

11am – NDIS information session

Please join us in celebrating this event, we look forward to seeing you!

 Primary Swimming Week

Our Primary Swimming Program was an enormous success thanks to the planning, preparation and organisation of our PE teacher Robyn, the support of all staff and our parent community. What an amazing display of commitment and dedication from everyone involved no matter how big or small, a massive heartfelt thank you to everyone.

Our swimming program was structured as a whole week intensive, which worked incredibly well with all students engaged in the sessions, enjoying the experience and showing development across the week.

Term 3 will see the Secondary Swimming Program implemented, which I am certain will be another successful venture!

Student Illness

The cooler weather is approaching and along with it comes illness, we have already seen staff and students unwell with cold and flu like symptoms requiring days off and COVID testing. If your child is showing any signs of being unwell and in particular cold and flu like symptoms, we ask that they stay at home and you seek medical advice. This will ensure they return to school ready to engage in learning and their classmates and teachers also avoid getting sick.

Post School Options Information Night

We hosted our Transition Expo for families and it was our biggest yet. We welcomed 18 service providers to join us and provide an opportunity for families to learn more about the options available to them as a post school pathway. We had fantastic attendance from families of students in years 11 and 12 as well as some families whose children are in year 9 and 10. Speaking to parents they were in awe of the night and the information they received.  It has definitely placed them in an informed position to start exploring options.

I would like to thank Dee for her coordination of such an important event in our calendar as well as the extensive work she does and support she provides to families throughout the transition process. Thank you also to all teaching and leadership staff who attended on the evening.

I hope you all continue to take care and I look forward to seeing you in the school soon!

Kind regards,

Nicole Edwardes

Principal
