The Secondary Learning Centre teachers have been planning for electives for Years 9 and 10, and the Year 11 and 12 classes have been working on their Social Enterprise programs and budget. These programs offer choice, access to work related skills and a rich capacity to improve communication, creative thinking, and students’ social and emotional learning.

Within these programs, students will be able to access horticulture, work related skills, hospitality and the creative arts. The items created will be available for sale at our Community events, as you may have seen at the Little Shop of Sunshine at the Student Support Group (SSG) night that the school recently opened up for.

The Year 7 – 10 teachers have been incorporating Geography into their Literacy planning for this Semester, with a focus on Australia. The Year 7 and 8 students have begun to explore fiction texts that have been incorporated into their predictable chart writing, discussing animals and their habitats. The Year 9 and 10 students have begun to explore where they live within Australia, and will begin to be exposed to the remaining states over the coming weeks. The teachers are using a variety of mediums to increase student engagement, including digital (Google maps, Seesaw sorting), tactile objects, craft, paper and both fiction and non-fiction texts.

The Year 11 and 12 teachers are exposing their students to a variety of new experiences and programs across the classes including shared teaching experiences and greater exposure to collaboration with their peers. As these young men and women transition into adulthood, we continue to build upon their skills in communication, adapting to new spaces, places and people.

Secondary Sports day last Thursday was wonderful to be involved with. The work that the students, staff, volunteers and community partnerships put in to such a successful event made it valuable for everyone involved. We were very pleased to have our parents back onsite for the second time in just a few short weeks! To our amazing families that continue to support their children’s learning opportunities, we thank you for being such a large part of our community. Students participating in the Hydro Therapy program the dates will be confirmed soon.
