Newsletter 9 – 17th June 2021

Dear Parents, Guardians and families,

It’s hard to believe we are almost at the end of term and it is wonderful to be back together again after the Circuit Breaker Lockdown. The return to onsite learning and working for all staff and students has been incredibly smooth as we settle back into routines, expectations and engagement in learning, again our students have demonstrated how adaptable and resilient they are.

An enormous thank you for your continued support through incredibly difficult times. The positive work done through the Learning at Home/Working from Home period and the transition back to school has been successful due to the dedication, commitment, positivity and partnership of our entire school community. We are always in this together and we thank you!

We continue to implement our COVID Safe plan and ensure our practices and protocols are aligned to Department of Education and Training (DET) guidance and medical advice. We hope with the easing of restrictions we will be able to continue to alter some of our existing practices.

The major impacts for the remainder of Term 2 are;

  • The school remains a Visitor Free Zone
  • Face masks must be worn by staff, parents/guardians and visitors indoors and outdoors (until 11:59pm 17.6.21)
  • Government QR code must be completed by visitors

A reminder that if your child/ren is presenting with any cold or flu like symptoms they must be kept at home and medical advice sought. We will continue to contact families to pick up their children if a student presents as unwell whilst at school, in accordance with DET guidelines.

 Parent Teacher Interviews (Student Support Group Meetings)

Teachers are in the final stages of completing student reports which will be ready to send home early next week in preparation for discussion at our Student Support Group meetings (SSGs)/Parent Teacher Interviews.   It is with much excitement that we will be able to welcome you into the school as in line with DET school operations guidance, these meetings are deemed essential, we are also offering phone or WebEx meetings.

We invite you to our Term 2 SSG meetings; Key information:

  • Meetings will take place on June 23rd 2021, between 3pm and 8pm (last appointment 7.30pm).
  • Each meeting will be allocated 25 minutes.
  • Please book your time using the Xuno application
  • As a follow up (once you have booked a time) you will receive a text message requesting further information:
    • your need for an interpreter and if so what language
    • your preferred SSG meeting option – face to face, phone or WebEx.
    • if you do not respond the default option for the SSG will be face to face.

If attending a face-to-face meeting parking will be at the rear of the school through the Mounsey street entrance;

  • You will need to sign in and complete contact tracing survey
  • Face masks are to be worn both inside and outside
  • Hand sanitiser must be used on entry and exit
  • Physical distancing must be maintained

 Education Week

Whilst the end of our Education Week celebrations were interrupted due to the circuit breaker lockdown and unfortunately us having to postpone our Biggest Morning Tea, Family Scavenger Hunt and NDIS session, Education Week activities were a huge hit with our students. Students access a games room and participated in a scavenger hunt in our sensory garden and all classrooms engaged in special in class activities designed by our Education Week Committee, a HUGE thank you to them!

We will reschedule the Biggest Morning Tea so stay tuned for an upcoming date in Term 3.

 School Photo’s

As restrictions ease and we can welcome non-essential visitors into the school we will reschedule our school photos, I anticipate these will occur in Term 3.

Rear Gate Sensor

A sensor has been installed on the rear exit gate to enable easy exit for cars. Please drive up to the gate and wait for it to open, it will do this automatically. The gate has a laser and will not close on a car as you drive through and will remain open as multiple cars drive through. It will automatically close 30 seconds after all cars have exited.

I hope you all continue to take care, stay safe and well!

Kind regards,

Nicole Edwardes
