Term 3 Update – 3rd August 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians and Families,

I hope this letter finds you safe and well, in what continues to be a challenging time for you, your family, your children and our community. Yesterday Premier Daniel Andrews, declared Victoria a State of Disaster, in response to the increasing concerns around the spread of COVID-19 in our state. Please find below an outline of this announcement and the impact this has on teaching and learning for the remainder of Term 3.

On Sunday August 2nd, the Victorian Government announced that, on the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer, regional and rural Victoria will move to Stage 3 restrictions and metropolitan Melbourne will move to Stage 4 restrictions to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

These requirements apply to all schools across the government, Catholic and independent sectors and across all metropolitan Melbourne and rural and regional Victoria.

As an outcome of these announcements and changes in restrictions, in Metropolitan Melbourne:

SPECIALIST SCHOOLS: will move to remote and flexible learning.

PREP TO YEAR 10: students will continue with remote and flexible learning.

SENIOR SECONDARY YEAR 11 AND 12 (VCE AND VCAL): will move to remote and flexible learning.

 TIMELINE

Tuesday 4 August: Curriculum Day, No School

Wednesday 5th August: Curriculum Day, No School (Sunshine SDS)

Thursday 6th August: Remote and flexible learning at home to begin

The changes to schools’ operations will continue until the end of Term 3.

REMOTE AND FLEXIBLE LEARNING ARRANGEMENTS

We have developed a Learning at Home program to support you, which includes both hardcopy packs and online learning using the SeeSaw app.

Both the hard copy packs and online SeeSaw learning will commence Thursday 6th August.

You have already received Pack 1 of the hardcopy learning packs. Pack 2 and 3 will be delivered by Wednesday 5th August. Below are the dates, each pack has been prepared for.

Pack 1: Thursday 6th August – Friday 21st August

Pack 2: Monday 24th August – Friday 4th September

Pack 3: Monday 7th September – Friday 18th September

I will provide further outlines of daily routines, setting up a learning environment and parent information in the coming days. We will also regularly communicate information through Seesaw and SchoolStream.

STUDENT ONSITE ATTENDANCE

We are still waiting for confirmation around the exact parameters of on-site supervision however Premier Daniel Andrews has stated that exemptions for onsite attendance will be rare. The Premier Daniel Andrews has introduced this strategy to ‘reduce the total amount of students and staff at school and therefore the total amount of movement across the state.’ There will be tighter criteria for onsite attendance in metropolitan schools this term, including the Government defined permitted industries. I will provide more communication, including the criteria and process in the coming days.

As we once again transition to a Learning from Home Model, our teachers are fully prepared to switch gears and once again provide high quality remote teaching and learning opportunities for your children via SeeSaw and hardcopy packs.

Learning at home is flexible, so that first and foremost you prioritise the health, safety and wellbeing of you and your family and you can support your child to access their learning at their own pace and time and engage in varied and preferred activities.

Our community showed incredible strength, resilience and flexibility during Term 2 remote learning, and we will continue to strive to ensure the health, safety and the wellbeing of our community is at the forefront whilst providing high quality education to each and every student.

We have been so grateful for the support of our parents/guardians and families throughout the past few months and the changes we have overcome together, and as we navigate this next phase of remote teaching and learning, we want to sincerely thank you for being a community that comes together in support in the face of uncertainty and adversity.

As further information and guidance is provided by the DET I will continue to update you through School Stream and again I thank you for your ongoing support.

Take care and stay safe.

Kind regards,

Nicole Edwardes

Principal
