Welcome Back to School 17.07.20

Dear Parents, Guardians and Families,

We hope this finds you all safe and well, amidst what are uncertain and unprecedented times.

We have welcomed back about 40% of our students as many families have chosen to keep their children home due to health and safety concerns. This is understandable given the current increase in COVID-19 cases in our local areas and across metropolitan Melbourne which are alarming and concerning for our community and indeed the state.

We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have implemented a morning temperature checking process for all students as directed by the Department of Education and Training. We also appreciate the support of families when students have presented with high temperatures, cold or flu like symptoms and your prompt response in collecting your children and seeking medical advice. We know this is inconvenient but these guidelines are implemented following the advice of the Chief Medical Officer and the Department of Education and Training Guidelines.

As winter takes hold, we anticipate this will become a challenge however we are in a public health crisis, a global pandemic and must ensure the health and safety of our students, staff and community are the priority. If your child is unwell or presenting with cold and flu symptoms please keep them at home and seek medical advice.

There has been much discussion in the media about the potential for Stage 4 Lockdown. We are not sure if this will take place and if so, what this would mean for schools if this was enforced. In the event that there are any announcements that impact us, we will hear about this at the same time as you. However, as you know we like to ensure we think ahead and are prepared to support families and students as much as we can.

As we did at the end of Term 1, on Monday we will be sending home via the DET bus service or school mini bus drop off, a two week Learning at Home pack and accompanying resources. This is for you to store away and have in the event of any announcements that may impact on the face to face teaching we are currently providing. If you are currently choosing to keep your child at home for safety reasons, please DO NOT yet use these packs. We don’t know that this will happen, but if it does we want to know that we have supported you as well as we can.

We hope that the weekend ahead is safe and warm and you all take care.

Kind regards,

Nicole Edwardes

Principal
